Prošle sedmice u Istanbulu održana je izborna Generalna skupština Svjetske unije islamske uleme, a nakon toga i Evropskog vijeća za fetve. Na izborima u Uniji su izabrani predsjednik, potpredsjednici, generalni sekretar i članovi Vijeća povjerenika, najvećeg tijela Unije.
Marokanski alim šejh Ahmed er-Rejsuni je izabran za predsjednika, potpredsjednicu su dr. Ahmed el-Halili, Oman, dr. Issam el-Bešir, Sudan, dr. Hajrudin Kahraman, Turska i dr. Habib Salim Sekaf el-Džifri, Indonezija, a generalni sekretar ostaje dr. Ali Karadagi.
U Vijeće povjerenika ušao je 31 islamski alim, a nominiranih kandidata je bilo 86. Među alimima izabrani su i dr. Ali es-Salabi, dr. Muhammed Hasan ed-Dedew, Ikrime Sadri, bivši muftija Kudsa i imam el-Akse i drugi alimi.
Iz jugoistočne Evrope izabran je samo dr. hfz. Safvet Halilović, on je dobio 208 glasova od 400 glasača i došao na 20. mjesto.
Ostali kandidati iz Kosova i Makedonije nisu uspjeli ući u Vijeće povjerenika.
Profesor Halilović je rođen 1968. godine. Završio je Gazi Husrev-begovu medresu, nakon toga diplomirao, magistrirao i doktorirao na Univerzitetu el-Azhar. Doktorska disertacija “Al-Imam Abu Bakr ar-Razi al-Džassas wa manhadžuhu fi at-tafsir” je ocjenjena s najvećom ocjenom (martaba aš-šaraf al-ula) uz preporuku da se štampa zbog njenih naučnih vrijednosti. Publikovana je izdanju renomirane izdavačke kuće Dar el-Salam u Kairu, u augustu 2001., a drugo izdanje je doživjela 2008. Disertaciju je na bosanski jezik preveo dr. Mehmed Kico. Profesor je na Islamskom pedagoškom fakultetu Univerziteta u Zenici.
Objavio je preko 150 originalnih naučnih i stručnih radova iz oblasti tefsira (tumačenja Kur’ana), sire – Poslanikovog životopisa, kur’anske antropologije, historije islama, dave, odgoja i obrazovanja. Saradnik je više islamskih novina i časopisa. Učestvovao je na brojnim naučnim simpozijima u Bosni i Hercegovini i svijetu.
Evropsko vijeće za fetve i istraživanja je izabralo i novo rukovodstvo. Dr. Abdullah Džudej’ je izabran za predsjednika, dr. Ahmed Džaballah i Suhejb Hasan za potpredsjednike, dr. Hasan Halava generalnog sekretara i dr. Halida Hanefija pomoćnog generalnog sekretara.
